My practice already uses an EMR system
If you use e-prescribing software or an electronic medical record (EMR) system in your practice you should confirm that your software has been certified by Surescripts. If your software is certified, simply contact your vendor and ask to be connected to the Surescripts network.
Be sure to explain that you want to enable all services that they have been certified for, which may include Prescription Benefit, Prescription History, and Prescription Routing (new prescriptions and renewal requests).
This is especially important if you are looking to take advantage of government programs - such as the Medicare Electronic Prescribing Incentive Program (MIPPA) and the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act - that are designed provide financial incentives to those that adopt e-prescribing and electronic medical record (EMR) technology.
If your EMR system is not certified, contact your vendor and ask about their plans for Surescripts certification.

I need to acquire an e-prescribing or EMR system
Physicians and other prescribers interested in e-prescribing via the Surescripts network must use e-prescribing software or an Electronic Medical Record (EMR) that has been certified by Surescripts.
If you do not yet have an EMR or e-prescribing software in your practice, you will need to acquire a solution that fits your practice needs. Surescripts does not sell software. Instead, Surescripts works with existing medical software companies to certify their prescribing software for access to our three core services: Prescription Benefit, Medication History, and Prescription Routing. This way you get to choose the software that best suits the needs of your practice.
You can find out which software is certified for these services right here on the Surescripts web site. Note that vendors with products that have been certified for all three Surescripts services and supporting message types are granted Surescripts Solution Provider status. In addition, Surescripts Gold Solution Provider status is granted to a vendor and product that achieves benchmarks which signal a higher level commitment to e-prescribing, customer support and successful customer implementations.
